Ingredients

12 oz spaghetti or fettuccine

1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces

3 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Zest of 1 lemon

Juice of 1 lemon

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the rest and set aside.

Sauté Asparagus: In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the asparagus pieces and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until they are bright green and slightly tender but still crisp. Remove the asparagus from the skillet and set aside.

Cook Garlic and Tomatoes: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add halved cherry tomatoes and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until they start to soften.

Combine Ingredients: Return the sautéed asparagus to the skillet. Add the cooked pasta, lemon zest, lemon juice, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired creamy consistency is reached.

Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil leaves and additional Parmesan cheese on top.
