Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup carrots, diced

1 cup celery, diced

1 cup frozen peas

2 cups beef broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Vegetables: Add the diced onion, minced garlic, carrots, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables soften.

Add Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook for an additional 5 minutes until they have released their moisture and are browned.

Make the Sauce: Pour in the beef broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the dried thyme and oregano. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Combine with Peas: Remove the skillet from the heat and fold in the frozen peas. Make sure everything is well combined.

Assemble the Casserole: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, pour the beef and mushroom mixture evenly. Spread the prepared mashed potatoes over the top, smoothing with a spatula. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.

Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven, let it sit for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
