Ingredients

For the Bars:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1-2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the edges for easy removal later.

Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients using a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Don’t overmix!

Prepare the Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.

Assemble the Bars: Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Dollop the cinnamon swirl mixture over the batter and then use a knife or a toothpick to swirl it into the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and spread it out evenly.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and mix until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and milk as needed to reach your desired spreading consistency.

Frost the Bars: Once the bars are completely cool, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly on top.

Serve and Enjoy: Cut into squares or bars and serve. For the best flavor, let the bars sit for about 30 minutes to allow the frosting to set slightly.
