Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup dried cranberries

1/2 cup white chocolate chips

3/4 cup heavy cream

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Zest of 1 orange (optional)

1 tablespoon coarse sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Mix-Ins: Stir in the dried cranberries, white chocolate chips, and orange zest (if using). Mix until evenly distributed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold everything together with a spatula until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The dough should be shaggy but hold together.

Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges (8 pieces) or use a round cutter to form individual scones.

Prep for Baking: Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle the tops with coarse sugar for added sweetness and crunch.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve: Allow the scones to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.
