Crispy Buffalo Tofu Nuggets

14 oz extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup plant-based milk (such as almond or soy)

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup buffalo sauce (plus extra for serving)

Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes or nugget shapes. Pat dry with paper towels to ensure they are as dry as possible, helping them crisp up when cooked.

    Set Up Dipping Stations: In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. In another shallow bowl, pour in the plant-based milk. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.

      Coat the Tofu: One at a time, dunk each tofu piece into the seasoned flour, making sure it’s completely coated. Shake off any excess flour, then dip it in the plant-based milk, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even coating. Set the coated nuggets aside on a baking sheet.

        Fry the Nuggets: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan (about 1/4 inch deep) over medium-high heat. Once hot (you can test it by dropping a breadcrumb in; it should sizzle), carefully add the tofu nuggets in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-5 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

          Toss in Buffalo Sauce: Once the nuggets are all cooked, place them in a large bowl and pour the buffalo sauce over them. Gently toss until they are all well-coated.

            Serve: Plate the crispy buffalo tofu nuggets and serve with additional buffalo sauce on the side for dipping, along with celery sticks and vegan ranch dressing if desired. Enjoy your delicious snack!
