Preheating your air fryer is a crucial step in achieving perfectly crispy garlic mushrooms. By preheating, you ensure that the air fryer reaches the desired cooking temperature before the mushrooms are added. This results in an immediate sear that locks in moisture while creating a golden, crispy exterior. Skipping this step can lead to uneven cooking, where the outside may become soggy and the inside may not cook thoroughly.

Ingredients

16 oz (450g) fresh button mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed

3 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley (for garnish)

Optional: ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor

Instructions

Prepare the Mushrooms:

    - Clean the mushrooms thoroughly under running water and gently pat them dry with a paper towel. Trim off the stems and make sure they are bite-sized.

      Make the Garlic Marinade:

        - In a medium-sized bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Whisk well to combine.

          Marinate the Mushrooms:

            - Add the cleaned mushrooms to the bowl with the marinade. Toss gently until all the mushrooms are evenly coated with the mixture. For enhanced flavor, let them marinate for about 15-30 minutes at room temperature.

              Preheat the Air Fryer:

                - Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.

                  Arrange the Mushrooms:

                    - Place the marinated mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure they are not overcrowded to ensure even cooking. If necessary, air-fry in batches.

                      Air Fry the Mushrooms:

                        - Cook the mushrooms at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time for uniform browning. Keep an eye on them; you'll know they're done when they are golden brown and crispy.

                          Add Parmesan (Optional):

                            - If you’re using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it onto the mushrooms during the last 2 minutes of cooking and let it melt slightly.

                              Serve and Garnish:

                                - Once crispy and golden, remove the mushrooms from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving bowl. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color and freshness.
