Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup tomato sauce

1 medium onion, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon dried basil (or 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Prep the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.

Sauté the Aromatics: In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, sauté the chopped onion until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Layer the Ingredients: In the Crockpot, place the sautéed mixture first, followed by the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, and sugar. Stir to combine well.

Add the Chicken: Place the seasoned chicken breasts on top of the sauce mixture. Cover the chicken with the remaining sauce and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if desired.

Cook: Cover the Crockpot with the lid and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.

Make it Creamy: About 30 minutes before serving (or when the cooking time has almost finished), stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Mix well to create a creamy sauce.

Serve: Once cooked, shred the chicken into the sauce if desired, or serve the breasts whole. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional Parmesan cheese. Serve over pasta, rice, or enjoy with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
