Ingredients

4 cups of day-old bread (French or Italian works great), cut into 1-inch cubes

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried parsley

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.

Toss the Bread Cubes: Add the bread cubes to the bowl with the garlic butter mixture. Use your hands or a spatula to gently toss the bread until each piece is evenly coated in the buttery mixture.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the coated bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure there’s space between each cube for even cooking.

Bake the Croutons: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the croutons are golden brown and crunchy. Stir halfway through to ensure they bake evenly.

Add Parmesan (Optional): If you’re using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it over the croutons during the last 5 minutes of baking for an extra layer of flavor.

Cool and Store: Once baked, remove the croutons from the oven and let them cool completely. Once cool, you can store them in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
