Ingredients

1 package (15.25 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos)

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 cups milk

2 packages (3.4 oz each) instant vanilla pudding mix

1 tub (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed

Gummy worms (for garnishing)

Fresh mint leaves (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

Prepare the Crust: Begin by crushing the chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs. You can use a food processor or place them in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin. Set aside about 1 cup of crumbs for garnish later.

Mix the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing well until combined.

Prepare the Pudding: In another bowl, whisk together the milk and both packages of instant vanilla pudding mix until it thickens (about 2 minutes). Once the pudding has thickened, gently fold in the Cool Whip until fully combined.

Combine Mixtures: In the bowl with the cream cheese mixture, gradually fold in the pudding mixture until smooth and evenly mixed.

Assemble the Dirt Cake: In a large trifle dish or individual cups, layer the crushed cookie crumbs and the pudding mixture. Start with a layer of cookie crumbs at the bottom, then a layer of the pudding mixture, repeating these layers until you reach the top.

Finish with Crumbs: Once you have built your layers, top the final layer of pudding with the reserved cookie crumbs, creating a ‘dirt’ effect.

Garnish: Strategically place gummy worms on the top of the cake, allowing some to look like they are coming out of the “dirt.” If desired, add fresh mint leaves for a touch of green.

Chill: Cover the trifle dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld and for the cake to set.

Serve: When ready to serve, carefully remove the wrap, slice (if in a dish), and enjoy the whimsical surprise of this earthy, sweet dessert!
