Ingredients

4 large round loaves of bread (sourdough or Italian)

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

8 cloves of garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup cooked pasta (optional, for filling)

1 cup marinara sauce (optional, for filling)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Bread: Carefully slice off the top of each loaf of bread to create a lid. Hollow out the insides using your hands or a small knife, leaving about 1 inch of bread on the sides and bottom for sturdiness. Reserve the removed bread for later use (like croutons or breadcrumbs).

Make the Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Season the Bowls: Spread the garlic butter mixture generously inside the hollowed-out bread bowls, ensuring all sides are coated. Also, spread some on the lids.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly along the bottom of each bread bowl. This acts as a barrier to prevent excess moisture from the filling.

Fill the Bowls (Optional): If you are using pasta and marinara sauce, mix them together and fill the bowls with this mixture on top of the cheese. Alternatively, the bowls can be filled with any desired filling like sautéed vegetables, meats, or soups.

Cover and Bake: Place the lids back on the bread bowls and wrap them in aluminum foil. This will help them bake evenly and stay moist. Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Crisp the Exterior: After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Once done, take the bread bowls out and let them cool slightly. Serve hot, garnished with additional fresh herbs if desired.
