Ingredients

For the Cake Layer:

1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix

1 large egg

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup pecans, finely chopped

For the Gooey Layer:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 cups powdered sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup pecans, chopped (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Make the Cake Layer: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, 1 egg, and ½ cup melted butter. Mix until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans.

Spread the Cake Layer: Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.

Prepare the Gooey Layer: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until well blended. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and ½ cup melted butter until the mixture is creamy and smooth.

Combine Layers: Pour the gooey mixture over the cake layer in the baking dish. Do not mix the layers together; allow them to remain separate.

Add Topping: Scatter the chopped pecans on top of the gooey layer for a delicious crunchy finish.

Bake the Cake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center remains slightly jiggly.

Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool for a minimum of 15-20 minutes before slicing. This gives it time to firm up a little more. Serve warm or at room temperature.
