Ingredients

4 whole wheat pita breads

1 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (red and yellow)

1/2 cup sliced mushrooms

1/2 cup sliced red onion

1/4 cup black olives, sliced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preheat the Grill: Prepare your grill for medium heat. If using a charcoal grill, wait until the coals are glowing and covered with white ash. For a gas grill, preheat for about 10 minutes with the lid closed.

Prepare the Pita Bases: Brush each pita bread on one side with olive oil. This will help them become golden and crispy when grilled.

Add the Sauce: Turn the brushed side of the pitas face up. Spread 2-3 tablespoons of marinara sauce evenly across each pita, leaving a small border for the crust.

Layer Toppings: Evenly distribute mozzarella cheese over the marinara sauce on each pita. Top with bell peppers, mushrooms, red onions, and black olives. Sprinkle oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the toppings.

Grill the Pitas: Place the pitas directly on the grill grates, oil side down. Close the lid and grill for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the pita edges are slightly charred. Check periodically to avoid burning.

Final Touches: Once done, carefully remove the pitas from the grill. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor.

Slice and Serve: Allow the pizzas to cool for a minute, then slice them into quarters and serve warm. Enjoy your delightful grilled pita bread pizzas with your choice of dips or a simple salad on the side!
