Herb & Garlic Swirl Rolls

Ingredients
  

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp salt

1 cup fresh herbs (parsley, basil, and chives), finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 Tbsp water for brushing)

Instructions
 

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

    Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.

      Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

        Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the chopped herbs, minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.

          Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle approximately ½ inch thick (about 16x24 inches).

            Add the Filling: Spread the garlic herb mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

              Form the Swirls: Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal and cut the log into 12 equal slices.

                Prepare for Baking: Place the sliced rolls into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, cut side up. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place.

                  Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

                    Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the rolls with the egg wash to give them a golden finish.

                      Bake the Rolls: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls are cooked through.
