Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Mushroom Gravy:

2 cups sliced mushrooms

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Make the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix until well combined and form into 4-6 oval patties.

Cook the Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside, keeping them warm.

Prepare the Mushroom Gravy: In the same skillet, add butter and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until mushrooms are softened. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine.

Make the Gravy: Gradually add the beef broth and soy sauce while stirring to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and let it thicken for about 5 minutes. If needed, season with thyme, salt, and pepper, adjusting to taste.

Combine: Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the mushroom gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through, ensuring the flavors meld together.

Serve: Serve the Salisbury steak hot, generously coated with the mushroom gravy. Pair it with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for an extra comforting meal.
